You should have already received your eBadge by email. Please print out the eBadge email and bring it with you to registration. If you have paid your registration, or you have been invited to attend mmc2017 and EMAG, it will have a barcode and reference number that you can use at one of our self-service terminals to print your conference badge. Your conference badge also allows you access to the Exhibition.
If your registration is unpaid, you will receive the email but it will ask you to visit the main registration desk, not the self-service terminals, in order to make payment.
Once you arrive at the entrance of Manchester Central, please go directly to the registration area.
If you use one of our self-service terminals you will just need to hold the barcode in front of the red scan light, or just type in your badge reference. If you need assistance, please visit the registration desk.
Please note - if you have made payment for your registration within the last 10 days, you may still have to go to the main registration desk to print your badge.
After registering, you will be able to collect a conference bag (sponsored by the Journal of Microscopy) from the bag collection point. This will contain:
- The Conference Programme
- The Exhibition Programme
- A Visitor Guide
- A Notepad
- A Pen
- Promotional Literature from Sponsoring Companies
- infocus magazine
You will also be able to collect a list of late breaking posters and a conference addendum at the Bag Collection Desk.
You can collect your lanyard, sponsored by the Royal Microscopical Society, from the self-service terminals or registration desk. Conference lanyards are Bright Blue.

Admission and Name Badges
You can collect your badge at either the self-service terminals or at the registration desk.
Entry to the sessions is restricted to mmc2017 and EMAG 2017 Conference Delegates only and for security purposes you must wear your badge at all times or you may be refused entry. If you lose your badge, please ask at the Registration Desk for a replacement.
Conference badges allow entry to all aspects of mmc2017, including the exhibition, learning zone and workshops.
Badges also have symbols to indicate whether you are an RMS Member (Small person symbol in corner of badge) and a symbol to indicate you have a congress banquet ticket (knife and fork in corner of badge).
Additional Security Measures
Please be aware that additional security measures have been put in place for mmc2017. On arrival at the venue you will see bag security checks and additional security personnel onsite. This is a measure recommended by the venue but is not indicative of any perceived security concerns.

Please note that the exhibition is not open on Monday 3 July.
Within your conference bag you will receive a copy of the printed programme and a programme addendum. This will list all the sessions, with timings and locations.
You can also view the scientific programme online at any time.
Please note that the printed programme may differ slightly from the online version due to changes that have taken place after going to print. The programme will be correct online and on the app and an addendum to the congress programme will be available to collect from the bag collection desk.
There will be two Poster Sessions at mmc2017 taking place from Tuesday-Thursday. Poster Session One takes place on Tuesday afternoon and covers all sessions from Tuesday morning until Wednesday lunchtime. Poster Session Two will take place on Wednesday afternoon and covers all sessions from Wednesday lunchtime until Thursday afternoon.
Posters will be viewed during the lunch breaks and also during the Poster Sessions. The Tuesday Poster Session is from 1600 – 1800 and the Wednesday Poster Session is from 1600 – 1800. Posters can be viewed on Thursday from 1130 – 1500.
Information for Poster Presenters
You must be next to your poster during the Poster Session in order to answer any questions as this is when the posters will be judged.
Posters will be displayed in a designated Poster Area at the rear of the Exhibition Hall.
Poster boards will be organised by symposia, session and then alphabetically by lead author.
Late Breaking Posters are all displayed at the end of each grouping of Posters.
Late Breaking Posters are numbered from either 1501 or 3501 (to be judged during the Poster Session on Tuesday) or 2501 or 4501 (to be judged during the Poster Session on Wednesday).
A full list of Posters is included in the conference programme and a list of Late Breaking Posters will be available to collect from the Bag Collection Desk in the Central Foyer on arrival.
Boards will be clearly marked to indicate the session and the poster number, which will correspond to the poster list in the conference programme you receive at registration.
You will need to check the programme on arrival to find out your poster number.
You will be given Velcro to affix your poster to the board. Please do not use pins or staples which may damage the boards. If you require additional Velcro, please visit the registration desk.
Posters may be displayed for the duration of mmc2017.
If you have a poster in session one, please ensure your poster is on its board by 1400 on Tuesday 4 Julyat the latest. If you have a poster in session two, please ensure your poster is on its board by 1400 on Wednesday 5 July at the latest. All posters must be removed by 1500 on Thursday 6 July as the exhibition will then close and you will not be able to have access to the Hall to remove your poster after that time.
Please do not leave your poster tubes or packaging next to your poster board as we cannot guarantee security and also it presents a potential health and safety issue. You must take it with you.
Poster prizes are sponsored by the Royal Microscopical Society.
Physical Sciences and Life Sciences Poster Prizes and are to be presented on Thursday 6 July before the plenary Lecture by Professor Professor Frances Ross.
SPM Poster Prizes will be presented at 1200 on Wednesday 5 July in Central 5, 6 & 7.
Frontiers in BioImaging Poster Prizes will be presented at 1600 on Wednesday 5 July in Charter 2.
EMAG Poster Prizes (Sponsored by EMAG) will be presented on Thursday 6 July at 1055 in Charter 1.
If you have any difficulties, a member of the RMS Events Team (wearing stripes) will be available to assist you on the day.
Information for Presenters
If you are giving an invited or contributed talk at the conference, please go to the AV and Speakers room after you have registered to load your presentation and to check compatibility with our AV system. Please ensure you arrive in good time (at least four hours prior to your talk or the day before) to ensure any issues are resolved. The AV room is situated to the left of the registration desk in central room 3.
RMS event staff and stewards will be on hand at the conference to help with any queries and to direct you around the venue. RMS staff will be wearing striped t-shirts and shirts to help you identify them.
Conference delegates will be able to obtain FREE tea and coffee all day in the exhibition from the central catering point.
Refreshments will be available to conference delegates in the Poster Area and around the Exhibition on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1600 – 1800 and on Thursday from 1130 – 1400.
Breakfast and Lunches will be available on a cash basis from the catering areas within the exhibition from Tuesday to Thursday.
There will also be a number of free water points around the exhibition.
Lunch vouchers are included in your conference registration, you have three lunch vouchers to use during the Congress and you can collect these from the Bag Collection desk when you register. The lunch vouchers have a value of £7 which can be used in full or part payment. Typically this should cover the cost of a sandwich and a snack. Please note, change from the vouchers will not be given.
The exhibition is one of the largest microscopy exhibitions in Europe, so please allow plenty of time to visit the exhibitors who have supported mmc2017. View the mmc2017 exhibition floorplan. In addition to the extensive exhibition there will be commercial workshops taking place as well as the Learning Zone and The RMS Zone. The Learning Zone will include talks on a variety of subjects, you can view the full Seminar programme online.
For any of the Social events listed below, we would be very grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible if you have any special dietary requirements. We may not be able to make provision for you on the night. Please contact Debbie Hunt if you have not yet provided us with your dietary requirements.
The mmc2017 Welcome Drinks Reception will take place immediately after the Opening Plenary Lectures on Monday 3 July from 1830 – 1930 in the Central Foyer. The Welcome drinks are generously sponsored by Microscopy and Analysis.
If you have registered to attend the Congress Banquet, you can collect your ticket from The RMS Zone, from Tuesday onwards. If you have not registered to attend there may still be tickets available and you can ask to be added to a waiting list. Tickets cost £54.

There is an organised meal for the Scanning Probe Microscopy community taking place on Tuesday 4 July at Don Giovannis Italian restaurant at 1930.. You must have registered to attend this dinner in advance of the congress, when you completed registration online.

EMAG Meeting Dinner
There is an organised meal for the EMAG attendees taking place on Tuesday 4 July at No. 1 Watson Street Bar and Restaurant at 1930. You must have registered to attend this dinner in advance of the congress, when you completed registration online.
Free Wi-Fi will be available in Manchester Central. Please note there will be no computer terminals available for use at Manchester Central.

There is an NCP (National Car Park) directly below Manchester Central that is open 24 hours a day all year round. It has 720 spaces including 18 disabled parking bays and there is direct access to Manchester Central by lift, stairs and escalators. The height restriction for this Car Park is 1.98m.
